Lompoc, CA, 2004
This 5-unit development provides home ownership for the local workforce. The project is comprised of four, 2-storey townhouses of 2-3 bedrooms, and one accessible 2-bdrm flat. The site and unit design promotes an alternative to the adjacent long building blocks of faceless apartments with shared horizontal balcony corridors. Private yards and patios at each unit surround a generous central shared outdoor open space and landscaping.
The design presents the individuality of each owner and contributes to neighborhood life and character with main entries facing the street. A variety of scale, color, and materials allows each residence to be a variation on the theme, and draws from the nearby bungalow neighborhood.
