Casa Nueva - Santa Barbara County Office Building
Goleta, CA
2004
Working in the garden: this model office building on a campus of 1800 employees
creates vibrant spaces reflecting tenant's aspirations for a great workplace.
The building users (Air Pollution Control District, County Association of
Governments, Dept. of Social Services) practice what they preach as building
identity and performance reflects agency mission of environmental stewardship
and social reconnection.
The project showcases sustainability realized within conventional budget as a
model for all future County of Santa Barbara design and construction. A 330'
trellis of simple, memorable, and dramatic shade fabric & flowering wisteria
presents a green identity and shields the south & west from seasonal heat gain.
Tactile and sustainable materials, energy efficiency, and amenities such as
outdoor workstations, occupiable artwork, and native landscape culminate in a
beautiful courtyard providing spaces to work, collaborate and recreate.
